I was nominated by amazing illustrator Laura-Susan Thomas to share my creative tools for ‪#‎CreativeWeaponsofChoice‬. I'm a little embarrassed to share my mess, but here it is. We just recently moved into this house, and I have the most beautiful studio full of sunlight for the first time. I remind myself daily that I better earn this. For my latest project I have been working with my favorite blue pencils on Strathmore 1 ply paper. I do a full pencil piece with only an HB pencil. I love the idea that you can achieve with one simple tool. The paper is thin enough to run through a printer, so I scan it and run a second version. I soak this paper to stretch it, staple it to a birch board to dry overnight, and then do a light watercolor wash with a muted palette. I use the computer for reference and touch up. I'm still trying to figure it out!
I nominate James Fulton and Joseph Prieboy to share!

Wow, I didn't realize just how much I've ignored this blog!  I finished up Marla Frazee's class at Art Center.  Here's my Christmas card in progress, following Marla's technique of soaking one ply paper, stapling it to a board to dry overnight, and then painting.  I did a pencil rendering of my house, and followed with some simple watercolor.
